Description
Situated on the sprawling Gunbarrel, Boulder County golf course overlooking the Indian Peaks and foothills, this beautifully crafted, late 1970s contemporary-style home was renovated to encompass a mid-century modern aesthetic with minimalist finishes, resulting in an open floor plan with a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living spaces.
Updating the exterior included leaving the original brickwork untouched and bringing in a modern color palette and materials to create a dynamic look. The siding was replaced with cedar, a softer element to contrast the brick's hardness and the trim's darkness. Altogether, there is a perfect color, texture, and depth balance.
Updating the home's interior called for exposing the staircase with a vertical railing system complementary to the angels at play in the existing architecture; incorporating modern materials in the finished cabinetry throughout the kitchen, den, and bathrooms introducing sleek, mid-century design concepts; and seamlessly flowing from the great room to the patio through the oversized Zola slider.
Inspiration for the home is drawn from minimalism concepts found in mid-century designs, along with the warmth found in natural finishes like walnut and oak and the desire to join interior and exterior living spaces. Combining these features creates a look and feel for the open, inviting, and restorative home.
